RIBA Architectural Award for design

This year’s RIBA Architectural award for design went to KLH Architects for a new design studio. Completed in September 2015, the new build studio stands parallel to existing offices. Although its striking design makes it stand apart from the other buildings, its grey steel roof helps it blend into the original development.

The studios industrial theme comes through its grey standing-seam metal cladding on the exterior walls and roof. Bright red timber battens cover the south-facing gable end, providing shade to the glazed doors. The design continues on the rear gable, adding colour to a social barbecue area where staff gather to relax.

Inside the studios, vaulted ceiling shows off its structure, thanks to its exposed stainless steel rods. The white interior creates a bright, light and airy space & ideal for the creative work going on inside.
